He is a senior healthcare executive with two decades of experience in business operations, claims administrations, marketing, finance and MIS operations. Dr. Faisal Khan (Chairman) – Dr. Faisal A Khan is Assistant Professor of Surgery at LLU School of Medicine. He is also Chief of Surgery at White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr Khan has served as the Director of Surgery for the Peruvian American Medical Society Mission to Ayacucho, and heads out with his dedicated team annually to bring healthcare to remote areas of Peru. Azhar Hameed:-Azhar Hameed is a serial entrepreneur whose last company, Gfk Etilize, is now part of one of the world’s largest Market Research Company, GfK, based in Nuremberg, Germany. Having been trained in the fields of Computer Science from University of Oklahoma and Business Management from Anderson School, UCLA, he brings to SHINE’s Board not only the proverbial entrepreneurial energy and creativity but also the discipline and experience to help build projects from ground up and scale them to global heights. Azhar, is committed to the cause of helping those in need. He leads the Los Angeles Chapter of The Citizens Foundation (TCF), which is one of the most reputed non-profits in the education section. Azhar is very well respected in the community as a social activist, philanthropist and avid golfer who has represented Pakistani Golfers Group as a team captain and organizer.
Dr. Kuon – Dr. Kuon is a highly experienced Thoracic and Cardiovascular surgeon based in Whittier, California. Originally born in Peru, he graduated from San Fernando Medical School in 1965 where he completed his thesis on “Penetrating Thoracic Wounds.” He served as Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Ica Medical School from 1967 to 1970, and as Staff Surgeon for the Organ Transplantation Program of the Peruvian Navy from 1971-1976. Dr. Kuon completed his specialty through the two-year Cardio-Thoracic Surgical Fellowship at the University of Southern California, followed by a third year of training in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Harvard University in 1979. He has been dedicated to the Peruvian American Medical Society (PAMS) since the 80′s and remains the only National PAMS President to be elected twice (1988 & 2006). During his presidency, Dr. Kuon organized and directed twenty-six charitable medical missions for PAMS in different areas of Peru, including the cities of Tacna, Ayacucho, Trujillo, Cusco, Huancavelica, Lircay, and Huaytara. He was awarded the Humanitarian Award by PAMS (2005, 2014), and Lending Hope Organization (2010), and was declared the “Most Distinguished Peruvian Citizen in USA” by the Peruvian Embassy in November 2015.
Dr. Syed Salman Naqvi (Director ) – Dr. Naqvi is a leader in the field of Pulmonology with more than 20 years of experience. He served as the Chief of Staff at Kindred Hospital in Westminster, California, and the Medical Director of the Cardiopulmonary Department and the Subacute Unit of Costal Communities Hospital from 2004 to 2010. Dr. Naqvi completed his residency from St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital in New York City in 1992, and Pulmonary/Critical Care fellowship from University of California, Irvine in 1995. Beside his numerous appointments, Dr. Naqvi has a private practice in Orange County since 1995. Since October 2005, he has been an instrumental part of earthquake relief efforts in Pakistan. Along with his wife, Dr. Naqvi has travelled to Pakistan to work in health clinics in rural areas. He plays a major role in raising funds for SHINE Humanity and advocates for the causes the agency supports among legislators and decision makers. He also served on the board of Relief International from 2004 to 2010. He was awarded the Robert McCaffree, MD, Master FCCP Humanitarian Award from the American College of Chest Physicians in 2010 and in the same year, was awarded the Humanitarian of the Year from Canada-Pakistan Business Council Toronto, Canada.
